Job Description

Position Summary

The Entry Level Grant Writer is responsible for conducting prospect research, identifying funding sources, and developing sophisticated, compelling, high-quality grant proposals and reports to maximize support for priority projects and programs. This position reports to the Director of Development and Conservation Programs.

Primary Responsibilities

· Generate revenue through developing, preparing and submitting compelling, high-quality grant and gift proposals for TPWF programs including but not limited to Gear Up for Game Wardens and Stewards of the Wild

· Develop content, prepare, and submit reports for funded projects according to funders’ guidelines, interests, and restrictions

· Collaborate with subject matter experts to inform proposal and report development process

· Identify, research and analyze new and existing donors and prospects for gift cultivation using databases, online information, and other resources

· Help identify, qualify and strategically prioritize grant funding opportunities

· Manage and adhere to a comprehensive proposal and report calendar that tracks submissions, upcoming deadlines, reporting requirements, and moves management

· Monitor proposal progress ensuring receipt by funders and tracking funding award decisions

· Enter and maintain relevant data in database and produce reports to guide team discussions on upcoming deadlines and strategies

· Provide skilled editorial assistance, editing and proofreading materials as requested

Secondary Responsibilities

· Prepare accurate donor/prospect bios and overviews as needed

· Acquire and maintain sound knowledge and understanding of the mission, values, strategic goals, and programs of TPWF

· Maintain constituent confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential

· Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Preferred Background and Skills

· Bachelor’s degree

· This is an entry-level position; familiarity with grant writing or fundraising is preferred but not required

· Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

· Advanced skills in Microsoft Office including Power Point, Word and Excel

· Ability to handle an extensive and diverse workload while maintaining a positive perspective

· A strong work ethic, sense of urgency, attention to detail, and ability to think independently

· Ability to interface with individuals at every level of an organization, both internally and externally

· Ability to adapt quickly to, plan for, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced setting

· Strong initiative, self-motivation, integrity and sense of humor

This is a full-time position requiring in-office presence at the Dallas office.

TPWF works to restore and conserve fragile ecosystems, including over 110,000 acres of native grassland habitat and more than 7,100 acres of coastal barrier along Matagorda Peninsula.
