At this stealth-mode startup Biotech, we are using the emerging tools of genetic medicine to engineer cures for human diseases. About the role

As an AAV vector core scientist in the product engineering group, you will advance our genetic medicine technologies, enabling the discovery and development of new therapeutics. In this role you will:

• Lead operations of the AAV vector core, including the production, purification and characterization of research-grade AAV
• Design, optimize, and validate SOPs related to AAV production and purification to ensure consistency, reproducibility, and compliance with regulatory standards
• Implement analytical methods to characterize AAV vectors, including assays for titer determination, empty/full capsid ratios, and vector genome integrity
• Assist in the optimization of AAV screening workflows to efficiently evaluate novel vector designs and production conditions
• Assist vector engineering initiatives to increase the potency, specificity, and safety profiles of AAV vectors through capsid modifications and genome optimization
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including the molecular biology and screening teams
• Maintain detailed documentation of experimental procedures, results, and conclusions in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements
• Provide management and mentorship to junior researchers, fostering their development and guiding their contributions to the team

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Virology, Bioengineering, or a related field, with 1-4+ years of industry or postdoctoral experience; or
• M.S. with 4+ years of hands-on experience in AAV vector production
• Experience producing AAV in mammalian suspension cell cultures using shake flasks
• Familiarity with routine analytical assays for AAV characterization, including qPCR for genome quantification and capsid ELISA

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with affinity and anion exchange chromatography techniques
• Proficiency in developing, validating, and training others on new standard operating procedures (SOPs)
